Pasty Butt Question

Good thread Gene! I will be getting my chicks on Monday, and I can totally see myself panicking at a bit of stuck poop. I am glad you asked this question and now I am better armed to deal with real vs. imagined pasty butt cases. :)

I got my first flock a week ago and I too was paranoid about pasty butt. Some of them really did have it so I wiped their vents with wet paper towels since I was afraid to do it under running water like some suggested. When the problem came back worse, I broke down and washed it off with a small stream of lukewarm running water. The poo came off like that! None of that wiping and wiping with paper towels. It hasn't come back since. Good luck with your chicks!

Building the good bacteria in their gut can prevent pasty butt. I just remembered the AWESOMENESS that is RAW Apple Cider Vinegar! 1-2 tablespoons in a gallon of their drinking water does wonders. I have also started mine on Fermented feed. How could I forget the basics?
