Well, my girl has hatched 4 out of 10 and 3 more pipped, even with that cold weather. She's been outside in a plastic covered cat litter box in a covered part of the run and all seems fine. If I were you I'd be setting some eggs!
I'm sooo excited to get some eggs under her! Any suggestions on breeds? at the moment I think I'm going to get some silkie eggs off of eBay but I also need some inspiration of colours and all sorts, so any suggestion are very much welcomed!
P.s I love pictures everyone
Hi! I'm going to join this, I used to have a hen that would go broody all the time! I never let her hatch eggs, because I was afraid she was the type that would kill the chicks when hatched, but anyways she went broody twice in the winter!
Silkies are excellent pets and known for being great mothers!
Don't get standard size eggs as your hen is smaller and would only be able to handle 4 of them. Can I suggest silver spangled hamburgs, bantam Cochins, silkies, Mille fluer d'uccles and Porcelain d'uccles? I ordered one of every of those breeds and just love them! They all come in a variety of colors and are super sweet! Also if you are going to get standard sized eggs try going for lavendar Cochins, those are very sweet! I have two of them and love them to death!
Once I get a broody I will be letting her incubate eggs, can't wait!!! (It will also be my first time with a broody, I like to incubate my eggs)
