My polish hen has been sick for a few days. She's going on 48 hours of antibiotics, she's coughing up a slimey red liquid that looks like blood. What do I do? I cannot get out, we are snowed in with almost 2 feet of snow. She's in a dog crate in the house with two other chickens that got sick. But they are improving, my black polish is not.

put some cayenne pepper in their feed or water. mine were worse, coughing pure blood and got better with c. pepper. it stops bleeding.

In most animals, including humans, coughing up blood is a sign of internal bleeding or injuries. Is she showing any other signs of sickness, such as lethargy? If the pepper stops the bleeding, there is still most probably something wrong inside.

I'm assuming it's blood. It's red and slimy, that's all I know. She is very lethargic, she's been sick since Wednesday/Thursday, I have her on antibiotics, what I can get into her. She isn't making the gurgle /rasping noise anymore, but she's still coughing /sneezing. The gasping is better too but still there. She won't eat anything. I don't want to cull her if she has a chance but I don't want her to suffer either. I really don't know what to do

if she is better there is a chance she heals. but chickens need about 40 days to heal completely. patience!

The two other that are/were sick are much much better. When can I put them back into the flock I got them out of? I'm not sure how much longer I can keep the three inside the house in the dog crate

I don't think there is a set time. It depends on the disease or injury. If this is indeed internal bleeding and not some sort of respitory problem, it may lead to death, and can be extremely painful. But if the hen seems to be fine and not suffering, I wouldn't cull. Good luck OP, and so sorry about your hen's condition. :hugs

if it is too cold than keep them inside. you can try to put the 2 that got better outside for a few hours at daytime and then put them back inside at night. it is 10-15 days at least they should stay in a worm place. but you keep an eye on them they will tell you what they need. we can just guess from far away.
