New chicken owners in northern IL

So the wife and I have talked about chicks for a couple years now and finally this morning I quit my hemming and hawing and placed my order with Murray McMurray!

6 female Black Australorp
3 male BA

5 female Buff Orpington
3 male BO

5 female Red Star
3 male RS

1 free "exotic" chick.

Delivery is the week of Feb 29th, so we should have roosters in the freezer by June and hens laying by Aug.

Now that I know the chicks will be delivered the first week of March, it provides the motivation to finally convert one of the horse stalls to a coop and then build a run for when we don't let them out to free range.

Oops....I didn't realize there was such a delay when creating a new thread. Probably had to be approved by a mod since I am a new member.

I've had good luck with the chicks from MM and ordered ducks from them this year (due to come in April). I am kind of curious...why so many roosters?
