When chicken chicks hatch under a hen, the mother will feed them or one is supposed to put food and water too close to the eggs being incubated by the mother?

Its a good idea to have food (chick / starter food) and water available and at a suitable height / level for the chicks to access. Personally, i put mum and new hatches in a broody coop for a couple of days (but let mum out to poo and take a long awaited dust bath) with food and water. Thereafter, i usually leave the door open so mum can take her brood out and discover their world. Mum will always take them back to feed, drink and sleep (i close the door on an evening, once they are inside).
