Hi,

I got this 1-year old Partridge Plymouth Rock recently. It's my fault that I didn't check the chicken carefully when I got it. She has been here for over 3 weeks and hasn't laid any egg.

I noticed that her comb is pale, relatively more ragged than other healthy chickens. Previously owner mentioned that the chicken has been laying eggs before, and she stopped laying probably because of being terrified by hawk attack at his house.

Other than that, she seems fine. No symptom of other kind of illness.

I'm in CA and it's around 60 degree during daytime so I don't think weather is the reason.

Could you please help me check what's wrong with her?

Thanks,
Alex

It's possible that before you got her she had stopped laying and molted over the winter, but she should be getting red again and getting ready to lay, especially at her age. I'm in central CA and my birds have been getting nice red combs and faces for a while now and started laying again. I would probably start by deworming her with a good, broad spectrum wormer like Valbazen, unless you know without a doubt that she's been wormed recently.
