Hello my name is Ryan, my wife and I with our 2 children have decided to keep 4 chickens in our suburban backyard for eggs for the family. We are all very excited and happy to have found this source for the multitude of questions we have/will have. Thanks

Hi Ryan and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. The learning centre is a great place to start, as is your state thread, topic threads and of course the members themselves! We all like to help each other out, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

All the best in your new chicken adventure

CT

PS - I'll not ask why your name here is "donkeyboy" or whether your wife agrees!!

Hi :welcome Ryan

Glad you could join the flock! I'm sure you and your family will enjoy your chicken adventures. They are a great way of getting the whole family involved in a shared activity. Have you checked out the learning centre? Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
Lots of great articles to help you keep your flock happy, safe and healthy.

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Breeds such as Australorps, Faverolles, Orpingtons, Silkies, Sussex, Cochins, and Brahmas have a well deserved reputation for being calm and gentle; great lap pets and good breeds for children to handle. Of course there can always be an exception with any breed. If high egg production is a priority, Australorps are the best layers on this list. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Welcome to BYC. To find your state thread just put "Illinois thread," in the above searchbox. You may find other BYCERS in your area.
