How to properly preserve rabbit pelt?

I know this thread is probably a billion years old (it came up on google), but I just wanted to say that you should try not to get your pelt wet after the initial drying, unless you're using a soaking method.

Buy Borax powder. It's a kind of laundry soap. Sprinkle that on it rather than a bar of soap. It's easier and more effective.
 
I know of a person who used salt before sending the hides off to be made in to gloves, etc. Another person used borax before using a hide for taxidermy.
