I have a few golden cuckoo maran hens that I noticed were eating their eggs. How do I stop them from doing that? Any advise will be helpful.

It is usually started by an egg having been broken in the nest then turns into a habit. It is a hard habit to break for sure.

A few ideas that may or may not help.
1. Roll out nest boxes. These remove the eggs by letting them roll to an area the hens cannot get to. It also aids in keeping eggs clean.
2. The infamous mustard egg. Never tried it on my egg eater but basically you blow out an egg and fill it with mustard. They are said to taste awful to the chickens.
3. Up the protein in the diet and decrease the treats. Theory is that egg eating can be caused by a lack of protein in the diet. (My egg eater was on a 20% protein ration and still ate eggs. BAD habit)
4. Place ceramic eggs or wooden eggs in the nests. Theory is that if the egg cannot be broken the egg eater will simply give up.

My egg eater is still an egg eater. She now lives in the retirement side of the coop where very few eggs are laid.
