Ideal assorted bantams breed identification

The self-blue vs lavender (which are the same thing!) vs blue seems unnecessarily confusing to me too! I guess different terms must have developed in different places. The more I poke at chicken colors and genetics, the more I find there are often multiple terms for the same thing...

That appears to be a blue wyandotte bantam. Nice!

After obsessively studying the bantam selections on Ideal tosee what they have in blue and self-blue, I'm thinking most likely OEGB, possibly Dutch? I don't know how to tell the difference, particularly at this age, but both breeds have straight combs and clean legs, right?

An update on Mystery Blue- here she/he is at 2 weeks. I'm thinking blue rather than self-blue on the color. Any further thoughts from anyone on breed? It's early but I'm also guessing male on gender (not that it matters to me, much) given the comb at such an early age, as well as the sort of rambunctious behavior I often see in young roos- always needs to be king of the mountain! Super sweet and calm when held, though, so that's nice.

Definitely blue (told ya, nanny, nanny, boo, boo :p ). Lavender chicks start off a very pale, sort of dusty blue. I still think OEGB, but, I've never had Dutch bantams. You could always email your picture to Ideal and see what they say. I've done that before, they were very helpful :)

And agreed, on the lavender- I have a little cochin "self-blue" and she's much paler.

I'll give emailing Ideal a try!
