Incubators Anonymous

@WVduckchick The pigeons are cute. I think I could handle them. The WW says I don't need any....but she is wrong again..

It is too bad about your infestation of dux. We should really do something about them.

I could see you as a pigeon guy. :)

The dux in the incubator are already spoken for by customers. I’ll keep some of the ones my girls hactch, if any, but they will probably all be drakes. My luck! I only have 7 dux right now! :p

only 7???

This is the time to rid yourself of their scourge, before they regroup and bring in reinforcements.:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

Check out my new broody hut/ growout pen for the turkey coop :) Someone wanted to barter a few cages for quail and turkey babies the other day. It has two good sized doors that I can easily fit a gallon water fount through without any issues. Pebbles is now residing in it, awaiting some new babies to raise.

That looks perfect!

I have a hen that has been broody since New Year's. She's been the strangest one yet. She keeps hopping nests. I think either she's very low ranking and gives up her nest, at least sometimes, when another hen invades to lay, or she's just very nervous in general. I'd manged to keep up with her swapping and her eggs always remained warm or unattended for very short periods of time until Sunday, when I removed her eggs to check under her for extras and never put her half-incubated eggs back. I felt so dumb when I finally figured it out, far too late to save the unhatched chicks.

Since she's been such a pain incubating, and since it's been over two weeks and she's still broody and trying to sit, this weekend I'm headed to RK to get her some chicks rather than ask her to start over.

I'm not hatching anything yet, but, I WILL! I'm trying to get some hard to find eggs. Some of those almost black Marans eggs, some khaki colored (F2) olive eggs, and some really good quality Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and Blue Partridge Brahmas. (I found both of these last two are local, but not available until the spring) The dark dark Marans eggs are in CT, and apparently I'm on a long waiting list! Ugh. I am a hatchalolic!

Welcome aboard!
BCM eggs will vary in color throughout the year, but I guess you probably realize that. Sounds like some nice breeds you are looking for. Good luck!

Good luck in the Marans eggs! It's very hard to find good ones and then to actually get them to hatch after shipping. I have BCM and F2 Olive eggers hatching now along with blue laced red Wyandotte x giant orpington. I think I'm going to play with that cross for a while and see what I can get :)

Here are my F1 Olive egger eggs with an ameraucana egg and a BCM egg. I can't wait to see how dark the F2 eggs will be!

They're big like mine. I happen to have 2 turkey hens right now (long story & they won't be here much longer). Anyway, my lav orp cockerel (8 mo old) is already bigger and heavier than the 2 turkeys. He'll keep growing/filling out until 18 mo old.

Here's a pic from a couple days ago

His great grandpa was my all-time fav rooster. He was an amazing gentle giant and loved to chill out on DD's lap.
