Hi! Thanks to you delightful lot I'm getting my first batch of chicks (silver duckwing OEGB, if you're curious, from McMurray) this year after many years spent circling around the idea, then backing away slowly and fearfully. It's been a hilarious journey, and I wanted to thank you. And I had a question- has anyone else had this happen? My friends and family all want to help me name my chickens. They haven't even arrived yet!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! How exciting for you to be getting your new chicks :celebrate I'm sure you are going to enjoy them very much. Raising them is such a fab experience and lots of fun too.
The learning centre has a fab section with some great on raising chicks if you have not already checked it out ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks

When I have chicks hatch my son and his Dad do name some of them so it's not unheard off that everyone wants to pick a name. Chicks are something all the family can enjoy.

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Hi and welcome to BYC. Sadly, my naming system is rather less imaginative or interesting - i use leg bands so, for example its "brown yellow, brown green etc)

Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

Good luck with your impending little ones!

All the best

We named our chickens after some of our friends. Some were pleased and some, eh, not so much

Have fun with your flock!

Lots of folks seem to name chickens after TV or movie characters - loads of hens named Sophia, Rose , Dorothy, and Blanche. Laverne, Shirley, etc. Also Disney princesses.
