Help!! Today is day 7. 24 hours after I set the eggs I lost power for 10 hours. I have a incubator that the eggs are upright not laying on their sides. Does this look normal or is it a dud? There are veins just less visable in the picture than in person. Any help or thoughts much appreciated

It's easier to see and better if you candle from the air cell end down rather than rom the bottom up or the side. If it has veins, there's hope. That pic looks like a clear, but if you are seeing veins, I'd give it more time. I wouldn't worry too much about a power loss in the first 24, but I would expect the hatch date to be pushed back a day because of the lack of constant incubation in the first 24-48 hours I would expect to see more growth though for day 7, even with a 10 hour power loss.

Here's an excellent thread for comparison if you are interested: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation

That was the other thing i was worried about. I was told pointy end down. And thats what i did but there is no air cell on top its on the bottom! I have a feel that one in particular is no good. Here are some other pics. Some are fbcm eggs so they are super dark. I see life some. None in the white eggs :(

No. When you incubate if you are incubating in a turner with your eggs upright, they need to be pointy end down.
When you candle you need to candle from the top, rounded end. Shine your light into the rounded in and down into the egg and you will see the air cell. When you candle from the bottome up you can not see the air cell, you see the albumen in the bottom. This is not the air cell. Let me show you a couple candling pics from one of my hatches:

When you candle from the top you can easily see the air cell.

Yes I did!! I did last night. Much better. More developed. Crazy how much 1 day made a difference too. But I couldnt see the aor sac from the bottom at all but i put it on top and was blown away. Another told me to flip the eggs. I did. Hopefully i didnt harm them its was only a couple hours then saw your post
