I think 5 day old just tried to dust bathe??

Does anyone know if lawns treated the year prior are of danger? Obviously we are not going to be treating out lawn anymore...but i would hold off letting them play in the dirt at this age if it will harm them. Last treatment was last summer sometime.

It depends what the lawn was treated with? Herbicide to kill dandelions? It's safe a year later.

Insecticide to kill bugs? It's probably not safe, and moisture may reconstitute the poison.

Mostly herbacide and fertilizer...we have used trugreen, but we always had one grub treatment every spring?

If the grub treatment was any kind of insecticide, I would keep my chickens away from it until you see the return of normal insects which would indicate the insecticide has been neutralized.

Here's how to tell. Water a patch of sod heavily and wait a few hours for insects to surface. Dig up a small sample and get a magnifying glass, or even better, a strong hand lens that will really magnify tiny objects, and see if there is any "life" in the soil. If you don't see any bugs, I would not trust the grass and soil, which chicken will ingest for grit.

Herbicides will break down rather quickly, and you usually only need to be concerned immediately following an application. Don't take a chance on insecticides. Chickens will die a horrible death from them.

Thank you! We are working on that area right now for the coop and run, and today i saw tons of worms in the dirt...does that count??

Also..its still a bit cool here in march, but i do see insects throughout mh entire yard even durinf the seasons we've had the treatments done. For ehat its worth, i even see grubs. I don't think that treatment works so well...:/
