So...I've always been an "over researcher" which is mostly good, but sometimes it can be completely overwhelming! This will be my first flock, and I probably have already dove in over my head!

I have 5 Cochin Bantam chicks, 4 Khaki Campbell ducklings, and 3 Welsh Harlequin ducklings coming sometime next week. Of course I'm super excited, but, I'm also a little nervous. I keep reading about all these different diseases and problems that can occur and I'm curious as to the actual likeliness that my "fluffies" will catch or have any of these problems! I'm mostly concerned about 'Coccidiosis' because we have TONS of wild turkeys on our property. I do understand that there is a mortality rate and I'm trying to prepare my self in case...I just want to make sure I give these little guys the best start as possible! Maybe if I could hear some of your experiences, and any advise would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You can buy medicated chick feed that will help build up an immunity to cocci, but not prevent it necessarily.

You may also wish to read up on what vaccinations are recommended in your area (state or county agric board, or maybe give a hatchery a call and ask their advice).

All the best
