Frostbitten beak?!

My chickens seem to have frostbite, but just on their beaks, especially around the nostrils, where the beak is turning black! I can find pictures of chickens on these threads that have beaks that look like they are affected by frostbite, but no suggested treatment. Should I expect my hens to lose their beaks? Can anyone advise me, or has anyone had this experience? Thank you!!

Welcome to BYC - you'll need to take and post photos of the birds showing what you are seeing. Frostbite is not really something that is generally an issue in the area you are seeing an issue if I am reading your description correctly (frostbite is an issue of the exposed, fleshy parts such as combs, wattles, toes), but there are other causes that may be in play. It will also be helpful if you include your location as this will further play into the frostbite theory being possible.

Ol' Gray Mare, thank you so much. I found an earlier vid of my 3 chickens eating slugs, and looked closely at their beaks. They just . . . happen to have black areas on their beaks. I'm an idiot, and was anxious about the 16 degrees outside.

It looks like they are fine. I may need to take a nap today though. Good grief!
