Is this coop a smart purchase?

Unfortunately no. When you open the access door, straight ahead is the chicken hatch, to the right are the four nest boxes, and to the left is the roosting bar which I which would eventually be replaced by poop boards. In one of the pics through the chicken hatch you can see the roosting bar. I'll see if I can find something online that shows similar interior.

Four square feet of housing per bird seems to be the rule of thumb not including nest boxes. If you go substantially below that rule of thumb you risk fighting for space issues. Also you should allow one foot of roost space per bird.
 
Ugh I'm going to go cross eyed trying to find something appropriate within my budget. Wish my spouse would stop being a stick in the mud.
