My rooster, BB King didn't crow this morning so I went out to check on him. He was bright eyed, but just didn't look himself. Took him out of the coop to sit on the stairs with him and he started puking a clear greenish kind of mucous looking fluid. Stood up tried to crow and fell over dead. What in the world? He was a 9 month old lavender Ameraucana and was fine yesterday. I'm just heartbroken.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Green mucous is often suggestive of a bacterial infection. It sounds like he aspirated on the mucous.

Perhaps he developed a respiratory infection- did you notice any congestion prior to this happening? Any sneezing? Discharge from his nostrils?

If I were you I would check the rest of your flock for symptoms. Respiratory infections are very contagious and require an antibiotic to treat.
Chickens are carries of respiratory infections for the remainder of their lives.

When chickens are in the "throes of death" they can have spasms and movements, and crop contents may come running out. He could have had a heart problem or something else. If you kept his body, you could refrigerate it and send it in to the state vet for a necropsy to find a cause of death. There are many problems that chickens can have, and sometimes they will show symptoms, while many will just drop dead. Sorry for your loss.
 
Not one sneeze, cough, wheeze. No watery eyes. He ate, drank and pooped fine yesterday. He loved to chase my girls and would come running every time he saw me pulling up in the drive. My neighbor said possibly worms or something called sour crop. I've only been at this less than a year, so I'm still learning and reading. Thus part sucks though.
