Well, I'm not going to sit around and wait for one of my flock members to get worms and experiment myself, so I need some volunteers to try my little experiment. It will not harm your bird in any way. I need someone who knows their bird has worms, who would be willing to get a fecal test after trying the experiment.

The remedies are 1 cloves of minced garlic to a quart of water, 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, and 2 teaspoons of coconut oil (it won't mix, but the bird could still drink it). This should be the only source of water. It should take 2 weeks or less. Natural remedies take a little longer, but aren't as harsh. I am positive that it would work, but the only way to prove it to people, is a fecal test after the remedies. So who's in? :)

I don't think this is a good idea for a couple of reasons.

Just a general rule of thumb is not to feed animals allium (onions and garlic). It can kill them. I've seen it happen multiple times in chickens and dogs. It causes red blood cell hemolysis.

Also, I love that you are trying holistic treatment. I have used a lot of holistic treatments from yucca to oregano in some flocks to treat respiratory and gut health issues, but I try to avoid apple cider vinegar. It's more of a pH thing; you can really mess up gut health by using it. Some people swear by using it, I am not one of them.

I don't see how, there are so many articles from reliable sources that use ACV, and garlic. Many people, including myself, have used these on poultry for years. Read this article, it is just one of the many articles talking about the benefits to using ACV and garlic, and other natural remedies: http://www.fresheggsdaily.com/2013/11/coccidia-coccidiosis-natural-prevention.html

I am not going to get into an argument with you, but I feel like the article you're citing and the sources they cite are not of the highest scientific value. Yes, people have been doing many things for years. Nonetheless, I would recommend doing alternative routes than feeding garlic or apple cider vinegar.
This is just my opinion and experience. Also, coccidiosis is not just one parasite. It's a collective of multiple eimeria species. Thinking that there is a one size fits all treatment like you stated by just making a batch of this will cure all coccidiosis is not right. The immune system actually is protective after about 12-20 weeks from coccidia. You would need to do multiple fecal floats to validate that your results and findings.

You ever heard of Gail Damerow's Chicken Health Handbook? Many people consider her and that book to be a reliable source, but I promise you that her book has lots of misinformations in it. My point is that anyone can create a website, or publish a book... best to find properly documented scientific studies to back up one's claim.

Please, I didn't intend this thread to become a debate. Every One has their opinions on this and that, and no one completely agrees on something. It's up to the person considering to try my experiment, and I'd like to assure that person, that I don't have any dead chickens or ducks. Thank you. :)

Quote: I don't think you'll find any vets that say it's okay to use. People say lots of things, like some say it's okay to inject undiluted Tylan 200 into the sinus cavity of a bird. that's an extreme example, but there is no way I will endorse something I think could be dangerous.

But anything can be dangerous, not just garlic. I gave it to Flapper along with ACV and coconut oil for a week, and he's fine. And vets would lose money if they told the patients to use these things. They do what they were trained to do. My veterinarian is honest, and allows us to do things that most other vets don't. She's the only vet, and it's a smaller place, so that makes all the difference. I'll talk to her sometime. :)
