I just came across a blog where a woman had built a beautiful coop within a barn. It was constructed using mainly chicken wire so a lot of open ventilation. Would this be practical for me to build within' my small barn, I spend a a lot of time in here as it's my workshop as well. I was wondering about the dust being harmful to me or the saw dust being harmful to the birds.

cedar shouldn't be used around chickens so if you cut a lot of cedar I would not do this there are other woods that aren't good for chickens because of the sting scent of their oils, and the dust is pretty bad but you just have to weigh your own options you could build one with solid walls though and not have a problem.

Thanks, I did know about the Cedar. I was thinking of still making an enclosed coop/nesting box area within, which in my experience tends to be the dustiest area.
