Sour Crop? Help

Hello poultry peeps......crisis mode here with my 8 year old "B" very sick with what seems to be sour crop...
She is going downhill as I have been massaging her crop and isolating her. Not eating or drinking but I did give her a little dredge to keep her somewhat nourished. All the feathers on her head a standing up on end and the smell of the droul/crop discharge points to sour crop. Any suggestions or ideas? *No I'm not going to vomit her and accidently kill her via aspiration.

Have you or anyone every 'vomited' a chicken? I've read that its necessary for sour crop and I've read that its easy to kill(aspirate) a hen doing the vomiting.... I'm torn, this is a 8 year old hen who doesn't need to go out via my half assed vet techniques....

No, I have never "vomited" a chicken.
I don't believe any of the threads/links I provided advocate doing that either.
You would still need to provide treatment since sour crop involves a yeast/fungal infection of the crop. What is happening is for one reason or another the crop is not emptying properly and the food is basically fermenting in the crop.

I vomited a chicken a while back, I can't remember the specific reason but it was over pretty quickly and I don't remember having any problems with aspiration or choking. I do mix apple cider vinegar into my water, to kill any bacteria or algae in my waterer, and I assume that's why I've never had any issues with sour crop. I've successfully used ACV to treat yeast infections in dog's ears, so it stands to reason it'd also prevent yeast growth in the crop. I'm not sure I've heard of many ways to treat sour crop besides draining the crop and then addressing the yeast, but if you're that against regurgitating the bird then I don't really have any advice.

Thanks. I'm not so much against it as cautious after reading several horror stories. The lady is sleeping now but very weak, I'd be surprised to find her alive in the morning. Bummer

I have been dealing with this for about a month now, with my Brahma hen. In the beginning I knew she was sick when I shook a bag of meal worms and the flock came a running, but I was missing one. I found her standing there with her eyes closed, so I picked her up and her crop felt like a water balloon. I vomited her and then brought her to my garage where she could be alone and not picked on. I held water and food for 24 hours. I had to vomited her the next morning and felt her crop and it wasn't empty, there was stuff in it. She started to get better until I stupidly let her start to eat corn and grass/free range WAY TOO SOON. She got sick all over again. So I had to vomit her two more times and I mixed electrolytes and polyViSol in in some yogurt with water and fed that to and only that for 2.5 days. Then I got chick starter and that is all she gets, plus the yogurt. Her water has probiotics and electrolytes in it as well. I used a dropper to give her the plain yogurt 3x a day. If I didn't vomit her, she would have been gone by now. She is slowly recovering, but I am also dealing with mites. Wrap her in a towel and feed her. I hope she gets better!!
