I just got this goose yesterday from a not so good place. I was looking for a year old friendly female goose for my gander and happened to find one on craigslist. Only when I got there she was not friendly but rather terrified and looked awful. I couldn't leave her there. She had no water some corn strewn on the floor and no top to her small enclosure. I have her separate from the rest of my flock and am wondering if she perhaps has mites?? I will post a picture any help would be appreciated. Her feathers look pretty bad and her chest seems worn out a bit too. The woman who was selling her also did not know what breed she was and said she had lost her mate just the night before, she also had three eggs but she is not sitting on them. She is extremely stressed, not eating much, she did seem to enjoy a bit of a bath yesterday, I know it will take her time to adjust, but any advice in making things easier for her would also be greatly appreciated.

looks like a Toulouse goose. The appearance makes this goose look like a gander as the feathers look worn from breeding and fighting to breed. good luck. You might some dandelion greens as a treat to calm her/him down a little.

Oh no, I hope it isn't a male, I don't know how to vent check, I've read it's even harder when they are grown. Not sure about the fight to breed thing, she/he was the only one in the pen. The lady said the male had died just the night before, wasn't sure what killed him said perhaps a fox. She wasn't the most truthful to begin with so I really don't know. Thank you for the advice and responding :)
