I just got my Rhode Island Red on thursday and it's about 5 days old and I forgot to ask the store keeper the gender of my chick! Her/ His name is Waffle and he/she HATES it when I try to hold or pet her/him but he'll/she'll let me feed her/him with my hand. Any ideas on what gender it is?

Unfortunately no picture is showing in your post -- at 5 days of age that would not matter as it is not possible to sex RIR by sight at this age. The behavior you are noting is more to do with fear/unfamiliarity with you than with gender at this point. Is this the only chick you have at this time? Do you remember if the bin the chick was in might have said "pullets" or "straight run"? If not, contact the store and ask them if the chicks they are selling are sexed or unsexed.

okay, thank you! I have one other chick but I know that shes a girl because the owner of the store gave her to me and told me "she's a real keeper" and also the Rhode Island Red I'm having trouble with the gender doesnt have a lot of feathers on it's butt while my other Rhode Island Red does is that normal?
