Everything I have read the girls are too young to lay, but everyday the last week when checking the inside of the coop I notice two nesting boxes have a perfect nest made. I level it out, just to make sure that I am not crazy, but everyday, the perfect little nests are back. Are they just getting ready? All my calculations say at least two more months.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes, 10 weeks sure is pretty young for nest making, but it is possible they are practicing. Usually they start playing in the nest boxes a week or two before laying. You need to go hang out with them and catch them in the act! Ha! Put some fake eggs in the nest boxes and see if anybody sets on them. Who knows...maybe you have an early broody?! Or one funny chick!

Keep an eye on things and most of all enjoy them!!

Welcome to our flock! :)

I didn't even think about the fake eggs but will be getting some. Knowing my luck, it is the two roosters that I am trying to get rid of since I can't have roosters in the city.

Thank you! I have already learned a lot off this site. My wife was very skeptical of chickens, but now she has named them all.
