Last year we got what we thought was Blue Andalusion chicks, turned out to be "splash"

This is what CA Hatchery has shown for the Blue Ameraucana on their website. $32 for a chick.

Anyone else have dealings with the hatchery, breed and price?

We are looking for BLUE eggs and our easter eggers just started laying green. :(

all comments welcome

Splash is unavoidable when breeding blue to blue and many times as chicks you can't tell if the chicken is splash or a light shade of blue. However if you breed your splash to a black you'll get blue..lol

I'm almost positive the California Hatchery or CA Hatchery isn't a hatchery at all, but just a web business that takes orders and has them drop shipped by real hatcheries. There are several online businesses like that. Their physical address is an office in a building of office suites with lawyers sharing the building. Their website says they have a "hatchery network" and they are an "online resource for ordering poultry"...sounds like code for "we are just a middle man". Only their business name makes them sound like a "hatchery". Beware!
If you want hybrids for eggs or meat buy directly from a real commercial hatchery.
If you want a breed of poultry buy directly from a breeder.
