Ok so we got 1 rooster and 8 hens from a battery farm and were told that they are all RIRs. We also had a buff orphington hen and an unknown rooster given to us. I hatched out 12 eggs i collected from them and got a very odd mix of babies. Could anyone help me figure out what Breeds I have? I can post better pics of some if need be.

Here is the RIR rooster with one of the hens

the buff orphington hen

RIR hen (this is what they all look like)

Here is the unknown rooster (he used to have black on his wings and a beautiful black and white tail, but he got in our goat pen one day and the goats ate them off.)

Here are the babies from the above parents

Well, I am sorry to say but none of them are RIR's... your first rooster is an Easter Egger, the red hens look to be Production Reds/Red Sex Links, and your unknown rooster looks like a White Leghorn mix...

The white in leghorns is dominant so the chicks that are white with red tints are from him for sure... the chipmunky looking chicks are from your EE roo, I am betting... and the others are a toss up... mixing breeds and colors will give a very mixed result in chicks... :)

Thank you so much.

I was sitting here last night after posting that and looking at the multicolored babies and thinking how much they look like what the 12 americana pullets I bought at the feed store looked like when I got them. they are now 7 weeks old and I was actually hoping that one of them would be a roo so that I could hatch more EE when I wanted to.

Even before the eggs hatched I kept telling my Aunt that the guy she got the chickens from lied to her, that they weren't RIRs because none of them looked like any photos of RIR i could find online.

Any Ideas on what this little one might be? Same parents but he/she has black feet and beak, is all black except a white/yellow spot on its belly.
