So I went into the coop this morning and heard the joyful "peep" of a newly hatched chick. I looked under the hen and saw the left over shell but baby was hiding deep in the back so I left them alone and went to work. This afternoon I wanted to retrieve the shell to see which egg had hatched so when I looked u dear her I found another chick in the process of hatching. He was in the middle of the clutch still sporting half the shell and he sounded distressed.che looked a bit crammed in there so I moved an egg away to give him some room and I left it for a few hours. When I went back to check the chick was dead. There was still a piece of shell attached to the chick but the chick was dry and mostly fluffed out. Any thoughts on why he may have died? Would my disturbing them be the cause.
