We're very new at this. . Hatched four chicks about seven weeks ago. . One was smaller than the rest.. now she seems to have stopped growing. . Sneezing frequently. . Good appetite .. normal drinking and poops.. today I noticed blood on her beak .. coming from her nostril.. then more on one toe.. and blood on the bedding. . She doesn't seem to be picked on and there's nothing for her to injure herself on.. I'm getting very worried. . Could she make the others sick. . Please any ideas would help greatly. .

What is the "source" of the blood? Is it from the nose and it is dripping onto the toes and bedding? You mention the toes so just trying to clarify exactly where it is coming from.

Does she seem to have trouble breathing?
Any coughing?
Is she eating/drinking?

The blood is coming from her nose .. looks like maybe it dripped on her toes and the other chicks picked at her toes and broke or tore her toenail. . She. Was sneezing a lot as well. . We separated her and got rid of the sawdust. . Less sneezing now. . She is eating and drinking fine .no coughing and breathing normal.

Sawdust can be dusty and cause sneezing. Do you think it could be an injury of the nostril, do you see any peck marks at all?
Respiratory illnesses with symptoms of blood coming from the nostrils is contagious, so if you think it may be an illness instead of injury I would keep her separated for observation.

Leaning towards illness rather than injury. . I don't see any peck marks at all. . She seems calm and happy to be back in the house. . And alone. . Hopefully just being calm and rested will help her heal.. the sneezing is pretty much gone. .less nosebleed today. . And her toe is scabbed over. . Not bleeding now.

Any chance she could have gotten any rat poison?
The main illness that I can find for blood coming out of the nostril is Infectious Laryngeotracheitis (ILT). You can find info in the link I provided previously or search it here on BYC and the web.

The only way she could have gotten rat poison is if someone gave it to her purposely. . I'm very careful about toxins. . We have two dogs and six other full grown chickens. . There's no rat poison on our property. . She seems a little better today with the appetite of a horse! Maybe she was being bullied. .
