Frizzle? Pretty sure he's a roo

Hi Seesagirl, first off your boy is darling. I love the silver penciled Cochins. As far as whether he is frizzled or not, there is no chance of him being a frizzle unless one of his parents is a frizzle.

As for your question about whether the feathers can curl up late, I've never known of them curling up late. In my experience, they are always quite obviously either frizzled or not by two to three weeks old. As for the other part of your question of whether a chick can have just a few frizzled feathers and still be a frizzle, all frizzled chickens do have varying amounts of frizzled feathers and variances in the quality of the frizzled feathers but the frizzling is all over their body.

Good luck with your boy!

I've had a chick with similar feathers. Most of the 'frizzled' feathers molted by about 8 weeks old, but he had a few that were still a bit funky at 14 weeks, when he went to freezer camp.
Your's is definitely a Silver Penciled Cochin cockerel.

No barred rock.  Don't know what ?        The silkie is a cutie, how old?

I was told at the store he's a silver penciled Cochin bantam, straight run. It's a reliable store and they've never been wrong on breeds so far. :)

The white Silkie is the same age as the Cochin, about six weeks. I wouldn't even have the Cochin, only when I placed my original order I ordered two Light Brahmas, two white silkies, and two splash silkies - and the post office lost the silkies overnight. O.O The splash and one white survived, when I called the store they replaced the one white that died, no charge. Since that one was a few weeks younger I got him/her a buddy. So glad I did, he's adorable!
