Help !! Broody hen and another being super aggressive

Hi all,
I'm new to this online forum so apologies for any mistakes.

I have 3 hens, they are 2 years old and I have had them since they were chicks.
They have always got along lovely, they have a big chicken house and run.

One hen went broody a couple of weeks ago.. She has been lay in the box for ages- Iv taken her out , removed eggs etc - but every time the broody hen goes down from the laying box one of the other 2 hens runs at her and attacks her (pins her down with her feet and pecks her her face) it's awful to see.
Iv brought some 'chill out' today - I have kept chickens since a young age & grew up in a farm. I guess Iv been lucky as Iv never experienced a aggressive chicken before.

Any help would be great- I'm literally pulling my hair out.

We were all new once and you have done just fine with your first post :highfive:

My best guess would be that she is being attacked because they are seeing her as a threat to the pecking order. While she is brooding in the nest box she is out of the flock dynamics. When she comes out or you put her out they may be seeing her as a newcomer so to speak.

I think Iv broken the brooding, but she is now staying inside because of the other chicken attacking her.
It's just the one chicken who is being aggressive, the minute she goes out aggressive hen runs for her! The other chicken stays out of the way and doesn't seemed bothered.

I see this post is several years old, but I am experiencing the same situation. I have six hens, and only one responds in this aggressive way. She will even get all ruffled and run at me as I am taking the broody one off the nest. Then she literally attacks the broody one as soon as she is on the ground. The others just go on about their own business.

Hoping someone has had new insight since the original post.
