Any Advice on Moving with Chickens?

Good luck with your move! It sounds like you have thought things through pretty good. I just wanted to give you a little encouragement. My Mom moved her flock a couple hundred miles around this time of year from WY to ID and they were fine in dog crates tarped in the bed of a truck. I do not know if she had food or water in with them. I know she packed them in fairly snugly.

Everyone made it! We even got stuck in the first circle of hell (aka the world's worst mechanic) in Missoula, MT. But we made it. Two cats, 1 dog, and 9 chickens on a truck/ 27 foot Airstream!

The thing that helped the most was the watermelons. Every time that they looked hot or we stopped for gas I gave them half a watermelon. They even ate and walked around when we were on the highway. They were real troopers! Very impressed.

Great!! Congrats!
Sooo...you're not in Wisconsin anymore?
Best of cLuck with the new place!

Glad to hear your moving went well for you. I actually was looking because we are moving (only a few blocks) but we are building an entirely new coop at the new place and was just wondering if that small of a move will stress them out. Also I have 4 new 3 month old game chicken hens that have been separate from the main flock and was wondering if when we move we could introduce them to the new coop all at once. (I am hoping to only build the one coop this year and save building the second until spring) Last time we tried to introduce them all the big girls almost killed one of the small girls. So they are in two runs with a fence between now.

It may work, with them being familiar through a fence and the new coop being neutral territory, but be ready with a back up plan

that's what I'm hoping for is neutral territory might make it easier but we have plenty of wire and posts if we need to section part out for the little girls we can. Everybody is getting their wings clipped before the move though. The little girls fly all over in their run already.
