I'm new to chickens and so far we've done pretty well, we moved them to their coop yesterday, they're about 8 weeks old, and after an hour or so I checked on them and two were dead. They had a chicken pile in one corner of the coop and I think that maybe those two were smothered. Is this something that is normal-ish? Just curious. I was bummed because we made it through to this point without any loss...

How many chicks did you have? And what kind? Seems odd to me at that age. I would have done same as you and felt they would be fine at that age. Sorry that happened to you.

Oh I have barred rocks and I love them. So full of personality! Have your chicks been in the dark before? They will panic the first few times they experience dusk and maybe that combined with the new environment caused them to pile up. Everyone seem to be eating/drinking/ pooping ok?
