I read a post the other day that described ducks as puppies with feathers, and talked about giving the ducks balls and other toys for them to interact with.

It's been on my mind for a few days now and I'm now wondering what toys folks have given to their ducks if any?

I have them some bird toys hanging in their pen and a couple squeaky dog toys. They play with one, the other not so much. I hear them jingling the bird toys sometimes too

I secured a couple of feet of nylon rope very firmly to the side of the pen, so that it hung down about level with the tops of the ducks' heads. Einz especially liked to tug on it. I made sure it would not come loose and be a choking hazard.

Piles of fresh straw are possibly the biggest hit with the ducks.

we got one of those balls you can take apart and put food or a treat into that would fall out while they played with it. but we didn't have it long, a gutsy squirrel took off with it before we could stop it. we need to find something to replace it with now. they've played with some random stuff we floated in the 10' diameter pool we got them too tho.

Whole cabbage heads or halved cabbage heads.

Adding 1 to 2 lbs if red wriggler sees to their deep litter.

Halved watermelons.

Fresh leaf litter pile and fresh hay/straw pile.

Not really toys but they all keep them entertained for hours to days.

I have a large population of salamanders that apparently aren't afraid of living with ducks. I can always tell when they've been playing where's the salamander.

And this is after many rounds of duck hot tub party.

Duck hot tub party sounds fun!

I forgot how much they really to love fresh straw bedding! I think I'm going to look through the closet and see if there's any thing that the dogs decided weren't fun toys and see if the ducks take hand me downs.

Tomorrow is fresh bedding day now that no one is broody! Might even string up a cabbage too!

Amiga, the ropes, were they knotted at the end? Trying to envision this.

Yes the rope was a quarter to half inch thick, knotted at the ends and secured very firmly at the top so there was no chance of it coming loose, and no loose fibers. And no way the fence could be pulled down, either.
