When should I switch to layer feed?

I mix 1/2 chick feed 1/2 layer at about 5 1/2 to 6 months for a month. Then over to straight layer feed after that.

So I have to wait til all of them start laying!! I can't switch over when one or two start laying?!?!
Depending on their breeds, it might be a few more months before they all start laying. Grower till they all lay.
There is no magic ingredient in layer feed that will make them lay, and if you like to offer lots of treats, it might not be a good choice for your flock at all.

No, just do what junebuggena says.
Don't rush things.
Ok thanks
Gray Farms said I could mix the feeds at 5 1/2,6 months can I ?
We have two buff orphingtons, two Columbian rocks, a EE,and a PR. I have about 30 pounds of layer feed left over from when the chicks were not outside yet with the older flock. Now they are with the older two in the same coop so I just didn't want it to get bad so I wanted to use it as soon as possible.

This is what I do.
I wait till the first egg. Then I feed layer feed. It does not matter if only one is laying. Once the first egg is laid I then put out the oyster shell.
Ok thanks! :)
I'm soo confused thou cause everyone is telling me different. Do I wait til they all lay or after one like you said???
Thanks

Its more or less personal preference more than anything. You can feed them layer crumbles from the start and they survive. But they won't grow right. I'd say if you've just got some layer feed your wanting to use up. You could just mix a little in everyday to get it used up. Then switch them over later.
