Nice Black Copper Marans Breeding Six for sale. Sorry, these females will not be split up.
Lines originate from Bev Davis X Wade Jeanne. One year old proven breeder Cockerel is not related to the pullets, or the hen. He comes from a very dark, #7 egg. He is a very big, solid, WIDE male with very excellent, perfect copper coloring (color balance is terrific!). He has great bay eyes, no hackle halo, well feathered medium slate shanks, and with no white feathers or light gray fluff anywhere. He is long and wide bodied, has good type, his topine long and back sloping downward correctly, with a wide tail. He is very friendly and has a great personality- so good to his hens!!!
His flaws are minor- not bad at all, and can be worked with through the females. He would've been a showbird without these minor issues. He has a comb that has the correct amount of prongs, however, the back of the comb near neck is thinner than ideal, again it is easily fixable in the females. All of the females have ultra nice combs to compensate. His comb is not abnormal, so, a son with a nicer comb can be chosen, and worked through the females. His wing carriage is a tad on the low side, and can be worked on by giving him a higher roost. All of the females have correct wing carriage to compensate. His worst fault is a high (85-90% tail) however, it is NOT a squirrel tail. All of the females here have long back and low angled tails to counter this. He has a small amount of copper chest leakage (about 10%) this will improve copper in the hackles of the next gen females.
The hens all have great type, long, solid bodies, good wing carriage, good eye color, and all of them have hackle color. (One has quite a bit, one in the middle, and one is quite dark, but still has some darker copper.) I just added two more to this listing for plenty of diversity. This is an excellent assortment of color, and should give you plenty to work with! The dark hen is an aunt to the hen with the middle hackle. The lightest pullet is not related. They lay between 5-6, and the dark hen has a nice, speckled egg. This male will give good, dark egg genetics to get darker eggs. The hens are all mellow in personality, with the black hen being extremely friendly. The cockerel and the black hen are proven breeders.
Just a note- the birds here freerange outside, sit under misters in hot weather, and the hens have a bit of treading, so their feathers are a bit rough in areas this time of year. They all have tiny, minor comb scabs from being pecked at from flockmates- this is normal.
