Chicken Breed Focus - Marans

I wonder if Black Birchen Marans were one of the breeds that went into creating the Dixie Rainbow? My second gen birds from crossing them with a Barred Rock are giving these.

They are beautiful! The feathers on the black one remind me of my black. My granddaughter said today, "Gramma, your black chicken has metallic feathers..." lolol Guess mine are Marans; just not certain which type yet.

To answer my own q - it seems to have the name of French Cuckoo maran. Can someone tell the difference between this breed vs. plymouth barred rock? I thought i have 2 barred rocks, both their color are in different shades, so are their eggs though brown.

The British type cuckoo marans is clean legged and a bit smaller than the French type feather legged cuckoo marans. Cuckoo barring is usually more irregular than other barring patterns, and slightly wider. The easiest way to tell a barred rock from an English typed cuckoo marans is their eggs: marans should, in all types, lay dark brown eggs and barred rocks should lay light brown eggs

This is the one I have doubt about her breed- barred rock vs cuckoo maran? Pic of Her coat and feet attached. Her egg is much darker than my barred rock but not chocolate as I’d call.
