prayer warriors (following Jesus Christ, everyone welcome)

Alright, well hello there!
I am a young adult, and have been raised in protestant baptist churches my whole life. I am currently exploring Orthodoxy, which is something that came up once a while ago in my family as my father delved into theology in a search for truth. It's now been introduced to me more personally, as my boyfriend is a Greek Orthodox Christian(who was also raised protestant). He is fantastic at answering my thoughts and questions, and I've been able to learn so much from him.
I was baptized by my own decision when I turned fourteen, and have been growing in Christ ever since. I, of course, hope to continue growing and I am always eager to see what God has for me next.
Glad you joined us here!

My story is the opposite: I was raised "casually Episcopalian" (go to church twice a year) but was born again at age 40. My husband was raised Roman Catholic, he got saved at 41, too. We are members of a small (50 adult members) independent Baptist church. I love singing the old hymns.

Here's one of my favorites:

Prayers please for a homeless man who came into my church tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't do as much as we wanted because he was under the influence of drugs. He really wants out of the situation he's in. He has known Jesus, but got addicted to drugs, and ended up homeless. I feel as though my pastors could have been more welcoming, and been more understanding as to his situation. They seemed somewhat judgemental towards him, and when people came in to the church, he felt judged and left without the meal offered. I wish ge could have been helped more.

..."Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." - Matthew 25:37-40

Praying for the homeless brother.

Maybe a lesson can be learned from this, and policy can be put in place so the church can do better in the future. What resources in your area are available for people like this? Is there a rehab facility that could help? Can there be a list of phone numbers posted in plain sight, so someone can say, "Let's call this organization, they can help you." At the very least, someone should have prayed for him.

I'm not so sure he wasn't prayed for, he was invited to Bible study that evening, and he has gone to all of the other places available. I couldn't stay upstairs because I was watching the kids downstairs and cooking for their group tonight. But I was disappointed in my church leaders' response. They addressed some of his spiritual needs, but not his physical needs. The church has showers, and someone could have stayed with him if he wanted to eat not in a large group. He was very obviously ashamed of his appearance and attitude, even though he wasn't sober. He kept repeating "I'm not crazy, I'm not dangerous." I think one of my family members who works with people with disabilities is going to try to hunt him down to get him more help.

He's been to the Salvation army for meals twice a day every day that they are open, and the homeless shelter is only open in inclement weather.

Good, I hope he gets the help he needs. He seems to be seeking help, and that's the first and most important step. I'll pray for him tonight. You sure it was a substance problem and not a mental health one? Sometimes hard to tell the difference.
