I got a pekin hen and two boys and instead of going through all the hassle of finding pullets I'm just wondering whether pekins are broody breeds? I've had lavender pekins in the past that have gone broody a lot of times and hatched out about 10 chicks each time! So I'm just hoping I'll get lucky. She's the only hen I have which is of course why I'm looking for more but I only like pekin breeds. So the ratio is one small pekin hen to two large pekin roosters. They're pure bred mottled breeds. TA :)

By pekins I'm assuming you are referring to bantam cochins, not the ducks. My bantam cochins, or pekins as they are known everywhere else but American, are very broody, and go broody multiple times a year, so yours should be too. The breed hasn't had the desire to go broody bred out of them, as they have other breeds.

Yes Pekins are a broody breed but if you are in the northern hemisphere it may be too late in the year for her to go broody now. Also, if you are keeping two cockerels with her, she might be too stressed to go broody. I would get rid of one of the males or pen them in a bachelor pad next to her and just let one out with her once a week to keep her fertile otherwise they will most likely make her life a misery.

Thank you!! I am in the Northern Hemisphere (Australia) so it's early spring. I use to own pekins in England so it was a bit different there I guess.
