My chicken is not eating! She passed shellless egg yesterday. Couple of her egg was broken before that! She is so week and fragile! I gave her Epsom salt bath thinking it would help but she is not moving! She is pooping yellowish kind of liquid. Please help!

Welcome to BYC.

Did the egg break inside her?
How does her abdomen feel - hard, soft, bloated, fluid filled?
Was she ok after she laid the shell-less egg - when did she become weak and fragile?
Did the bath seem to help any?

Pooping yellow liquid can be an indication of internal laying/reproductive disorders like Egg Yolk Peritonitis, Ascities, tumors or cancer.

Try to keep her hydrated, if you have some Poultry Nutri-Drench (vitamins) add that to her water. Give her some extra calcium like TUMS or liquid calcium.

Gently feel inside her vent about an 1" (one inch) to see if you feel an egg, just to be sure she isn't egg bound. You can try soaking her again to see if this gives her any relief.

If she is laying internally the best you can do is give her supportive care, there is not really a good treatment and antibiotics don't seem to be effective.

Thanks so much for your reply! My chicken recently getting sick a lot. This time couple of her eggs was broken when she laid, before she had the shellless egg. She became week after she had the broken eggs. When I give her an Epsom salt bath it always helps her, but this time it doesn't look like it helped her much! I'm adding vitamin powder to her water. But she is not eating at all although she did drink some water in the afternoon. I'm really lost, it's making me very sad to watch her suffer!

I'm sorry she is not improving.

Have you felt inside the vent about an inch to see if there may be any egg shell still in the vent?

Try to keep her as comfortable as you can. Staying hydrated is important. If she won't eat her normal feed you can try giving some scrambled/hard boiled egg, tuna, mackerel or meat.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for your concern. She was doing well for few days but she looks sick again today!

I'm sorry. They can sometimes do that, go up and down.

I forgot to ask, I'm sure you are providing oyster shell free choice, but just in case, make that available as well.

I know it can be discouraging, but do the best you can.
