I HATCHED OUT A DUCK I KNOW SHE WAS SPECIAL WHEN SHE WAS 2 DAY OLD SHE SWAM BACKWARDS AND WALKED ON HER OWN FEET AS SHE GOT OLDER SHE WAS SLOWER THAN THE REST OF THEM AND SHE DOES NOT QUACK SHE TALKS IN A LOW VOICE AND SHE HAS SEIZURE NOW AND THAN MY OLD MAN SAID SHE IS RETARDED BUT IF SHE IS SLOW I DON'T CARE I LOVE JUST THE WAY SHE IS

I have a cat with birth defects and mental issues. When we got her and her brother as kittens from a rescue, she was always a little off. She hid in shoes. And shirts. And tubas. Woe betide anyone wishing to use said objects, but she is a social butterfly in her own way. When we spayed her the vet said she would never have carried kittens to term, and when she runs her belly swings like an old milk cow's udder because her intestines aren't all held right. She is nine and lives outside and in my garage. She can hunt, but doesn't understand to eat it and things like that. Toto loves attention even though everyone calls her retarded, but haters gon' hate. It's great that your duck has a great home.

My friend has a two year old Duck that was hatched with no eyes and a deformed foot...She sticks close to the other Ducks and does very well following along...If your happy with her and she is happy? Then let her be....Congrats on giving her a chance...

Best of luck..

Cheers!

Ducks with those kinds of problems respond very well to B vitamin supplements especially when they are little. How old is the duck?

I would give a tablespoon, perhaps two, of brewer's yeast per cup of food for about six weeks and see if that helps.

Brewer's yeast, not baking yeast, not winemaking yeast, it is brewer's yeast it is a food supplement.

x2 on the brewer's yeast, especially for the niacin. @pam61, there's a recent BYC thread about special needs ducks that I'd like to invite you to share your story on: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1136769/ducks-with-special-needs.

Best wishes for your special girl.
