Dear all

I have a 2 year old Cayuga duck who for the last week has not been able to mobilise properly. One of her legs is not weight bearing and is back like in a swimming position. She seems okay in herself and is still eating and drinking and quacking away normally. We have been giving her nutritional yeast since and we think she is getting better slowly. Do you think it could be niacin deficiency?

it could be. no bumble foot or swelling heat or redness anywhere on her feet or leg? when one already has lameness we use Liquid B Complex TSC carries one called Durvet liquid B complex. Give it to her over a small amount of treat 1ml a day until she isn't limping then for a week after. Then start back on the nutritional yeast.
Heavy large breeds can come up lame with a niacin def. Many continue to use Nutritional yeast even after they become adults. Get the liquid B complex and give it a week if not better or gone then post back and we'll try and figure out what else it could be but since we're not vets we have to eliminate what the problems could be.
Another thing is she laying right now?

I'd keep her on liquid B complex until she is walking normally for at least a week, then start her on Nutritional yeast for life. The B complex gets them over it so much faster.

Great news you are seeing improvement!!
