Most higher protein 'all flock' type feeds do not have the calcium needed for actively laying birds, so you must provide calcium 'on the side' for them. Thanks so much for the tip!
I'll see at my local store if there is a higher protein feed that is possible for me to give.
I used to give them extra calcium but have been told they might have to much so I stopped a couple weeks ago. Do you suggest starting over again?
Learning to read the nutritive percentage labels sewn into the bottom of all feed bags is a must. You will see that layer feed has ~3-4% calcium....and the 'all flock' types have ~1%.
Oyster shells are, IMO, the easiest and most efficient manner to do so. A separate feeder works nicely. You can mix chicken egg shells in with the oyster shell.
