Bad foot on a gosling.

So in my previous post, I had to help my female gosling hatch as she was stuck... She's since had a bath and a swim, been blow-dried off and are doing well.

But we've noticed she's got bad feet, bad balance and her toes are all bent up; I'll attach a picture.

She is moving around, walking, eating, LOVED being in the bath... so we have no intention of putting her down, but is there anything we can do to help correct it, or will it correct itself? Or os the best course of action to let her work it out on her own?

Also, he brother appears to picking on her and pecking her; we've been keeping them seperate and introducing them for short, supervised periods but is this normal of is he just being mean? They both have teddies in their homes.

Sorry for the lighting, my spare lizard tank is doubling as my brooder (after a good scrub and disinfecting of course) and the red heat light was already there.

I should mention she's about a day and half old; her brother is a bit over a day older than her. My basis on her being unbalanced is from observing him through the same ages.

@MishkaMash You need to make her some shoes. Take some cardboard like card board box or plastic like a plastic butter bowl lay either flat out then take the gosling foot or feet and draw the shape on to the cardboard or plastic. then cut out wrap with vet wrap to protect her feet especially if using plastic place her foot down onto the shoe and wrap the vet wrap to hold her foot onto the shoe the way they should normally lay. This may take care of it. Needs to be done pretty quick though.

As for bro picking on her it could be that he notices something is wrong with her so what your doing is for the best right now. Once she is moving better and gets steady he will probably leave her alone as long as you continue to let them visit daily. Are you giving them any extra niacin or Brewers yeast? Being she is already having problems I'd get them on it asap. plain niacin 150mgs mixed in a gal of water or 1 Tab of Brewers yeast Human grade[ health food store]To 1 cup of feed till at least 10 weeks of age. It helps with leg issues and neurological issues.

Feeling quite frustrated. Have a cranky 2y old and sick husband so no help plus trying wrap a gosling feet? Gah!

Also, while she was standing and 'walking' well last night, now it seems like she has spraddle legs and can't square them up to stand.

Last night, she was standing best after a swim in the bathtub, could that have helped her?

Luckily, a friend is coming to help me out a bit later.

How'd the wrapping go? you can fix splay let by hobbling. and Yes swimming will strengthen their legs. Never leave them alone when in water believe it or not goslings can drown.

Very sorry your having difficulty with other family members.

I've since cleaned the tank out again and laid fresh paper towel down, and also had them out for excercise. Shes walking really well unsplinted on the carpet, so I've got rubber non slip matting in the brooder and will observe her. Her foots also appears to improve after just swimming and running free range, should I still strap it up or just see how it goes for another day?

If your noticing improvement then you could just watch.. You just don't want it to go on too long they grow so fast. I think that is a good idea on the non slip matting even reg towels laid flat can help. Sounds like she is improving daily.

Hi! Sorry we've been off radar... whole family had a gastro bug... ask me how much fun that is with our current menagerie!

Anyway, goslings are doing great, her feet and legs are going really well although she is heaps smaller than her brother. They get along and are nice to each other, they LOVE playing in water and follow us everywhere - they love attention! I've just taken popped them into a tub to enjoy some fresh grass clippings and here are some photos. :)

He is 8 days old and she is 7.
