I have taken on a gosling (unknown type) as he had a broken leg the original owner could not afford vet bills for. I took him on and had his leg strapped. The break was above the knee joint and poor Scuzzles had to hop / flop around for 3 weeks. He did not like this idea and the badages slipped off after 1 week. we tried to rebandage but it kept coming off. He was weight bearing on his leg though were when he first came to me there was nothing, it was like that leg was dead. My problem now is his good leg has bowed badly due to the week of weight bearing on one leg. I did some research and realized he needed a more suitable diet as he came with chick feed and this was what I was feeding him for near 2 weeks plus greens. I realised that this could also have affected his developement and did some more research finding this thread was the most helpful. I believe he is half the size he should be and has very little feathering at 9 weeks of age. Feathers only on upper wing tail and underbelly, everything else is still down and pin prickles coming through. He is now on gamebird starter and added vitimins and minerals in his water. He is also in a sling to take the weight off both legs. Hopefully we will see a change in his developement. Trying to upload pics but am not having any luck. :( hoping these links will work.

Glad you took him in.

With the diet issue, the bowing leg is more likely to have been caused by a niacin deficiency than not having been able to use the other leg. Start adding Brewer's yeast to his food to boost his niacin intake and hopefully you will start to see improvement.

Your picture doesn't work - when I tried to click on it I got a content expired notice :(

thank you, yes, I do believe it will have been a niacin deficiency too but exacerbated by added weight bearing. I will try to get some brewers yeast asap. In the mean time I have just upped the vitamins and minerals in the water. The bowing seems to have improved a little over the past 2 days since he has been in the sling. Did you try the link that is there now or 1 of the 2 original links I had there but have now removed.? It should take you to my facebook page with his album which is public. The other links were friends only and I could not change them. I have no idea why it will not let me upload pics here!
