What age did your roo start crowing?

I have a blue Ameraucana "Ralph" that is 20 weeks old and has never crowed once. When did your roo start crowing?

Can he be this old and still not crowing?

Most roos I have had, start crowing at 8 to 10 weeks old always.

Are there roos that don't crow?

Are you sure he's a "He"? He looks almost like a pullet in the pictures you've posted! To answer your question, I had one start crowing at 12 weeks, and his brother followed suit about a week later.

I am starting to think that too. He has shiny pointy feathers on the back area and I was told it was a roo but I have my doubts.

I've never seen a roo that doesn't crow. I guess time will tell. Another month or two. Thanks!

I was thinking "girl" until I looked at the feathers. Now I'm not totally sure Can you post a close up picture from the side? Is he around any other roosters or cockerels who crow? I've had roosters crow any where from 3 weeks' old to 8+ month's old. I have a 7 month old cockerel who I may have heard crow once. Maybe. Not sure, but there are two adult crowing roosters in the flock so perhaps they inhibit him although he is starting to dance for the ladies.

I'm fairly new to chickens and I wasn't 100% sure my rooster was a he until he surprised me and crowed the 1st time at 18 weeks old. Looking at your roo he looks more like a she than a he, also "he" looks younger than 18 weeks to me (lack of comb). Like I said I'm new to this but enjoy learning. It was interesting to me watching my chickens grow. They were sold to me all as pullets, but I knew there would be a chance I had a roo somewhere in the mix. I had a hard time determining and finally decided I wasn't going to know until he/she crowed or laid an egg tho I was already about 90% sure I had a roo due to his larger comb and wattles.

Had two silkies that turned out to be roosters, the dominant one started crowing at 12 weeks, kept them a few weeks after before rehoming and the other boy never crowed.

He or she is 20 weeks old today. Here are pics taken this morning. What do you guys think? There are no other roos to prevent crowing. He seems to be dominant but a few hens boss him around. He could be a late bloomer. Beautiful bird though.

It sure looks to be a Cockerel.......My Brahma/Ameruacana never crowed till he was 6 months old.....

You have a male. They crow when they want to. I've had a 1 DAY old chick crow. (the video has been posted on this site many times)

Thanks Chooks and everyone. I hope he doesn't crow much when he starts. I'll keep him if he is quiet. He hasn't gotten fresh with the girls yet either.
