Hello everyone. I have read through several posts and now I will ask my own questions. My daughter is in her first year of FFA and decided she wanted to show Silkies. So today we bought a young pair but I am still curious about the "female." I don't know what color she would be called and I am hoping that she is in deed a female. The white one I have no doubt is a male even though he is younger. What do you all think? I will add more pics in the comments

Thanks for sharing photos of your daughter's silkie but I cannot tell if it's a male or female. I've read many times you can't tell with silkies until they are several months older (or wait until they either crow or lay an egg).

Good luck to your DD with her FAA project and thank you for joining us!

Welcome!

Your Silkies are adorable and I wish your daughter the best of luck with showing. While I have owned a couple of pet quality Silkies in the past, I do not really have a lot of experience with them.

There is a Silkie Thread which is very active. If you post your question and images on that thread you should receive some answers: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread/62640

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Hi and welcome to BYC. Maybe if you search for silkie threads, you can post your pic on one of those.

Best wishes

Welcome to BYC! It's great to have you. That appears to be a female in or very near point of lay. Her color appears to be mixed; te closest pure color to her would be Partridge. She's definitely not any kind of proper show quality, but she's not bad and for FFA she should suffice just fine.
