Hi all
I'm new to the site and just joined to get some advice about one of my hens with a swollen eye.
It is red and puffy and almost swollen shut. She has not shown any other signs of illness, however has recently (about 2 months ago) been on two courses of antibiotics for a respiratory infection. Following this she had a case of fowl pox virus. She has been fine since and I just noticed the swollen eye 2 days ago.
I have brought her in tonight and have bathed the eye with saline, which I will continue to do.
Have attached photo so you can see what I mean.
Any advice appreciated!

Welcome to BYC!
I hope you find a solution to fix your girl asap.
Have you searched for "swollen eye" and read through some of the solutions yet?

@casportpony Do you have any advice for this person?
^^she is an expert!

Thank you :)
I have had a read through but there seem to be so many possibilities it's hard to identify exactly what it could be. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious!

Since you have had her on antibiotics in the past for a respiratory infection, she may be suffering from a sinus infection related to that which may be mycoplasma (MG.) Most respiratory diseases like MG and others may be chronic, make carriers of the flock, and can come back or be complicated by other viruses or bacterial diseases. Oral antibiotics for animals are not available without a vet's prescription, but you may still find injectable Tylan 50 or 200 at your local feed store, and those can be given orally or by injection. Get a few 3 ml syringes with needles to draw it up. Let me know if you need dosages. I would seek some testing by your state vet or poultry lab to identify the disease. In this link you can read about mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG,) coryza, ILT, bronchitis, and other respiratory diseases and symptoms: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Thank you all.
Took a trip to the vet today and she has been prescribed Tylan for mycoplasma.
Hopefully she'll be back to her normal self in a few days :)
