Hi all, I'm new to BYC and to raising chicks. I now have five 2-days old chicks hatched from fertile eggs and am glad that they have been doing v well and not making much noise (hopefully that means they r contended). However I have no knowledge of the parents of the chicks. Thus seeking ur help to identify the breeds. Here are pics of the five chicks. 2 with stripes and contrasting colou

Hi, welcome to BYC!

There really isn't much to identify since they are barnyard mix.

The chicks colors are going to change as they start to feather in. If you want help telling the difference.... notice things comb style, like leg color, beak color, skin color, ear lobe color, how many toes, or feathered legs. And compare those to your parent stock to try and get an ideal.

It's always fun to play guess the breed or gender.

In you pic, looks like there are production reds, maybe cochin, Australorp, maybe even mixes already.

See the flowered one has white ear lobes? That boy may give his offspring white ear lobes.... the clue to me that they aren't Swedish Flower after I wondered for a moment. Although I have a barnyard mix girl with white ear lobes and a crazy half pea, half straight comb... and she lays blue eggs. Because the blue egg gene is stronger than the white one. Looks like you've got a couple pea combs in there (adults).

Anyways, hope you benefit from my answer since I wasn't able to help identify them. Should be a fun bunch. I like having a variety of eye candy on pasture.
