I decided to start this thread because I've been raising guineas for almost a year now and Im always being amazed by these crazy birds.

I have a total of 8 pearl gray guineas, i started out with 12 keets but slowly 4 disappeared. They are now 36 weeks old, Everyone says their great foragers and eat anything but I've come to notice that mine are extremely picky eaters. I bring them scraps of vegetables and they never eat them or i find crickets for them and they never touch them. I bought dried mealworms as treats for them and they simply ignored them. One thing i have noticed is their crazy for cracked corn and white proso millet. I have mine whistled trained due to the millet. I have also never seen them go after snakes or mice.

I guess some guineas are smarter than others. I have 4 guineas that will fly over a wooden fence to get food from me and i have the other 4 that just sit there walking along fence looking for a way through. I have one guinea that will fly up on my arm and eat from my hand. They have a sort of respect code as well. As long as you don't try to grab and catch them then they love being around you, but if you try and catch them then they seem to lose their tameness. The coolest thing about guineas is their flight. Mine will go over to my neighbors house and when i whistle they all fly home over the trees and its a wonderful sight. I have 5 acres and a forest next to my house so they travel there a lot.

Im having trouble figuring out if i have any males or not. I know i have a lot of females. Theres 2 or 3 guineas that will put up their back feathers and chase another away but its hard to listen to their calls especially when they don't call at all. They have more of an upright stance and high step when they walk. Hopefully my females start laying eggs this spring i don't know if their old enough. I spent a lot of time with my guineas to get them where their at today. I want to get lavender guineas and hopefully they breed and make more. I just bought peacocks and i heard they can cross breed as well.

But Anyways thats why i love my guineas and i hope to raise more. If you have any cool stories or anything about your guineas don't hesitate to tell. its always good to hear other advice and stories. Thx
