Swing set chicken run

Very awesome!!! We start construction on our swing set coop/run tomorrow. B/c we are using the A-frame for the coop as well AND b/c...chicken math

we are planning an additional run in the near future. I doubt we will get done tomorrow but I've got about 7 college students coming over to help out

So here's hoping. I posted this pic in another forum but here is the 1/16 scale 3D model my son made of our coop design... and a chick just for good measure.

What an awesome idea! We have a much smaller version of a swing set at our house, but may borrow the idea for a brooder/chick playpen! I'm curious about the ground of the run, as it looks mostly made of dirt. Does anyone have an opinion or preference about dirt vs grass? We have moved the coop from one spot to another in the past year and wanted to move them back to their original spot, but it is just all dirt with only a few tiny sprouts returning after their summer spent on the area. Thoughts? My girls love the old area for dust bathing while they free range, but I wonder if they should be on grass or weeds more often.

The ground was sand but we have put hog fuel down. It has been raining a LOT so it's pretty wet and therefore dark right now. Sweet PDZ is helping a lot with that. If I left it dirt it would be mud right now and we have too many trees to allow enough sun for grass back there. So hog fuel was our solution. So far so good!

I appreciate it, that's slick.. how much did it run you

Not really sure because we had to buy a lot of the tools too. So now we are set up for more projects! But the materials alone was maybe $700? That's for materials for the coop and run, and we have a lot of hardware cloth, paint and Blackjack 57 leftover. I wish they sold smaller containers as that stuff is expensive!
